Sports minister Kiren Rijju backs Madhya Pradesh sprinter Rameshwar Gurjar to come through

Sports minister Kiren Rijju has offered his full support to barefoot Madhya Pradesh sprinter - Rameshwar Gurjar - who is touted as the next big thing amongst young Indian athletes. Earlier, Gurjar's went viral after a video of him completing a 100m sprint within 11 seconds blew up on social media.

Rameshwar Gurjar painted a tired figure as he finished last at the recently conducted trial by T T Nagar Stadium by senior coaches of SAI and the Madhya Pradesh State Government. After the race, the barefoot sprinter claimed that he had been suffering with a back pain that caused him to underperform at the recent trial.

Sports minister Kiren Rijju has assured the youngster his full support despite the underwhelming result. He claimed that the 19-year old was exhausted due to the glare of publicity which is why he couldn’t perform well. 

As per ANI tweets, Gurjar said he would stay at the academy for a month and was confident that if he trained, he could perform better. He added that running with shoes had affected his performance and as he preferred to run barefoot.
