Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain has started her campaign with a victory in the 13th International Silesian Championship for women, which is currently taking place in Gliwice, Poland. She overwhelmed Elmira Azizova from Russia by 4-1 in the welterweight (69kg) category on September 10, Monday.

Borgohain's opponent Azizova had claimed a silver medal at the Nation's Cup in earlier this year and is currently holding a bronze medal from the Russian national championships. On the other hand, Borgohain herself has been a gold medal winner at the India Open and a bronze medalist from the Ulaanbaatar Cup in Mongolia, conducted earlier this year. In the next round, Borgohain will be clashing with Martina Schmoranzova from the Czech Republic.

There are 21 nations participating in the aforementioned tournament, including countries like Kazakhstan, England, Ukraine, France and Germany. The Indian boxing squad competing in the Polish boxing tournament is a jumbled group of young boxers as well as veterans.

MC Mary Kom (48kg) and L Sarita Devi (60kg) are the experienced players representing India in the tournament, whereas Shashi Chopra (57kg) and Manisha (54kg) are among the emerging few who are participating. Chopra has been a former youth world Champion, while Manisha clinched a silver medal at the youth world championships last month.
