Bengaluru proposed as new venue for IPL final

The Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru has been proposed as the new venue for the IPL final after the Bombay High Court ordered the shifting of matches out of drought-hit Maharashtra. IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla also met the representatives of Mumbai and Pune franchises to zero in on the new venues.

As per a report by PTI, Rajeev Shukla voiced the reason behind the thought process to shift the May 29 final. “We will propose before the Governing Council that Final and Qualifier 1 be shifted to Bengaluru, while Qualifier 2 and Eliminator to Kolkata,” Shukla told reporters after the meeting.

“After speaking to the franchises, we have given them four options: Raipur, Jaipur, Kanpur, and Visakhapatnam. Mumbai Indians have asked for time till the day after tomorrow (to give their preference),” added Shukla.

While Pune have already submitted their preference, Mumbai have asked for time to think and have asked for a couple of days said the IPL chairman. “Pune has given Visakhapatnam as its preference. We will put the proposal of Pune team before the Governing Council.”

Shukla also added that, both the Maharashtra-based franchises will contribute to the Chief Minister’s relief fund to tackle the crisis in the state. “As far as giving 5 crore is concerned, it will be as per the directive of the High Court. They (the franchises) are supposed to get a written order on this,” Shukla concluded.

Bombay High Court on Wednesday had ruled on Wednesday that all the IPL matches scheduled in the month of May in drought-hit Maharashtra must be shifted to a new location. A total of 13 matches will be shifted out of Maharashtra, including the two knockout matches and IPL final on May 29. The BCCI, now has to find alternative venues for the concerned matches before May 1.
