ICC World Cup 2019 | Any time Australia plays England, it’s exciting, says Aaron Finch

Aaron Finch has stated that playing England in the semi-finals will be exciting. India’s triumph over Sri Lanka and Australia’s defeat to South Africa in the final encounter changed the whole scenario as India will now play New Zealand and England will take on Australia in the semi-finals.

Arch-rivals Australia and England are all set to lock horns with each other in the high-voltage semi-finals after finishing at second and third position respectively. Australia got the better of England in the league stages and did extremely well to register a thumping victory. Australian skipper Aaron Finch has stated that facing England will be exciting and the league stage win has infused some confidence.

“You have to beat everyone, regardless of who it is or where it is. Playing well against England a couple of weeks ago obviously will give us some confidence going into that game. England have been in really good form recently so we are going to have to be at our absolute best to win that,” Finch said, reported AFP.

“But it’s going to be exciting. Any time Australia plays England, it’s exciting. But any time you are at Birmingham as well. It’s a fun crowd to play in front of. It’s going to be a great atmosphere and spectacle.”

Usman Khawaja suffered a hamstring injury during the South Africa clash and had to walk back retired hurt. Though he returned to bat later when Australia were on the brink of a win, the extent of the injury is expected to be a little serious. Finch also shed light on the southpaw’s injury.

“Usman is not looking great in all honesty. He has done a couple of hammies (hamstrings) before and today feels a bit similar to that. He didn’t aggravate it anymore when he got out there (again). He wanted to go out, especially when we got as close as what we did. He has well and truly put the team first there. Marcus is just a bit sore in his side. We will have to wait for scans tomorrow,” Finch added.
