ISL 2019-20 | Role of a player is very different from that of a coach, feels Sandip Nandy

Northeast United FC's goalkeeping coach Sandip Nandy admitted that the role of a player is very different from that of a coach. The former international last played competitive football for Kerala Blasters FC in the 2016 ISL and has now taken up the managerial post for the Highlanders.

Sandip Nandy has enjoyed an illustrious career during which he played for top clubs across India like including Mohun Bagan, East Bengal and Kerala Blasters FC and represented the national side on 16 occasions. Taking up the role, the former footballer opined that there are contrasting roles between a player and a coach and hopes to deliver for his new employers.

"This is a new experience for me. There is a huge difference between being a player and a coach. They are two completely different jobs. This is a new chapter in my life. I am thankful that I got a chance in a team like NorthEast United in the ISL. I will try my best to do well here with all the experience I have and help the goalkeepers here,” said Nandy during an interview with Goal.com.

Croatian football legend Robert Jarni has been appointed as the head coach of the team for the new season. Nandy admits that it is a dream to work with someone like even though he was a little anxious as well as excited to meet him at first.

“It is like a dream for me to work with someone like Robert Jarni. The level of footballer he was, a European Cup winner, I was a little anxious as well as excited to meet him. But when I finally met him, I got to see that he is an extremely down to earth person,” added Nandy.
