Asian Games 2018 : Deepak Kumar starts day 2 with a silver for India

Indian shooter Deepak Kumar clinched a silver medal in 10m air rifle category at the ongoing Asian Games in Indonesia. The Indian shooter showed sensational form in the finals while compatriot Ravi Kumar just missed out on a medal and finished fourth in the same category at the games.

With a total score of 247.7, Deepak managed to bag the first silver for India at the games and it is also the first medal of the second day. Chna’s Yang Hao Ran finished with gold has he managed to secure 249.1 while Lu Saochuan from Chinese Taipei took away the bronze medal with 226.8 points. 

Even after 16 shots, Ravi was ahead of Deepak but unfortunately failed to grab a medal and finished at the fourth position with 205.2 points in the finals.

Deepak made a brilliant come back to knock Saochuan after trailing by eight points. He managed to score 10.8 and hence showed the door to the Chinese Taipei shooter.

This is Deepak’s first medal at the Asiad and he showed great composure during the finals to finish second. Deepak had won a bronze medal at the 2018 ISSF World Cup in Guadalajara in the 10-metre air rifle mixed team event with Mehuli Ghosh. He also bagged a bronze in Commonwealth Shooting Championships in Brisbane held in 2017. 

Yesterday, India opened its account at the games in shooting only with Ravi and Apurvi Chandela clinching bronze in the 10m Air Rifle mixed team event. Bajrang Punia bagged the first gold for the Country in 65kg freestyle wrestling.
