Manavaditya Singh Rathore secures junior men's trap silver at the Qatar Open Shotgun meet

Manavaditya Singh Rathore, son of 2004 Athens silver medalist and sports minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, secured the junior men's trap silver medal at the Qatar Open Shotgun meet. Manavaditya finished behind Italy's Angelo Scalzone, who shot 119 for gold as compared to his best of 118.

Manavaditya has taken after his father from a very tender age. The young shooter is no stranger to success and has previously won various medals on an international stage on several occasions.

 Manavaditya clinched the gold medal in the Men’s Junior Trap event at the International Junior Shotgun Cup that was being played at Oritmattlia in Finland in 2016.  At the Qatar Open Shotgun meet in Lusail on Saturday,  Manavaditya Smanaged to win the junior men's trap silver medal. 

According to reports from TOI, Manavaditya shot 118 to clinch the second spot. Manavaditya finished behind Italy's Angelo Scalzone, who did one better than the former shooter to as he shot 119 for gold. Just like Manavaditya, the Italian gold medallist, Angelo, is the son of former World Cup and World Championships medallist Roberto Scalzone. German teenager Jeremy Schulz won the bronze medal with a score of 115.

Manavaditya began by scoring 23 in the first series of 25 shots. The youngster improvised later and showed maturity by shooting 24 in the following three series, but he missed two birds in the penultimate and ultimate series to finish the series with 23 hits.

Manavaditya, 19, who is supported by a not-for-profit sports organization, Olympic Gold Quest, still has two more years to shoot in the junior category. The teenager has earlier won bronze in the Asian Shooting Championships held in Almaty in 2013. Manavaditya has also participated in the Junior World Championships in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2017 while also shooting in the junior World Cup for the past two years.
