The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has stated in its website that Indian weightlifter Swati Singh’s sample has returned an Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF) for morphine. However, the IWF has not mentioned about the event in which the Indian female weightlifter returned an AAF.

Without giving a clear clarification whether Swati Singh has committed a soping violation or not, the International Weightlifting Federation has said in a statement that her sample returns Adverse Analytical Finding for Morphine. Although there is no clarity over the tournament in which she returned an AAF.

“IWF reports that the sample of Swati Singh has returned an Adverse Analytical Finding for Morphine [S7. Narcotics],” the IWF stated on its website.

Swati had won a bronze medal in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in women’s 53kg category. She had finished third in the National Championships earlier this year in February before representing India at the Asian Championship in April where she had finished seventh. If the doping violation is not proved then there is a no chance of her to face a ban.

“In any case where it is determined that the athlete did not commit an anti-doping rule violation, the relevant decision will also be published. IWF will not make any further comments on the case until it is close,” the statement added.

As per the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)’s prohibited list, Morphine falls in the narcotics sub-category of drugs under specified stimulants which are not allowed in competitions.
