In 2019, the six-leg Equestrian Premier League which is conducted by the Embassy International Riding School (EIRS) is scheduled to begin on June 29. The EPL, which started off as a two-team event a decade ago, will be spread over a period of six months. A total prize money of Rs 10 lakh will be on offer.

"Following the success of Fouaad Mirza at the Asian Games last year, a lot of corporates are coming forward to support the riders. Events such as this will help in building a broader base for the sport," Jitu Virwani, chairman and managing director of the Embassy Group said in an announcement.

Virwani, who is also the vice president (finance) of the Equestrian Federation of India, added that a state-of-the-art facility is in the pipeline and the project will begin next year.

"We are working on an equestrian arena which will include an indoor competition arena, a practice area, a cross-country riding facility and gallery. The idea is to have a facility where the best international events can be held. The fact that it is close to the airport will make transport of horses easier," Virwani added.
