U-23 Junior National Wrestling Championships | Sajan Bhanwal, Manish clinch gold

Indian Greco-Roman wrestlers Sajan Bhanwal and Manish went on to bag individual gold medals at the Under-23 Junior National World Championships. Ten Greco-Roman wrestlers, who won gold, have qualified for the U-23 World Championships to be played in Bucharest, Romania, from November 12-16.

Sajan Bhanwal of Haryana went on to subdue Maharashtra's Shivaji in 77 kg category in the final bout in a matter of 40 seconds. In the 60 kg category, Manish from services overwhelmed Madhya Pradesh's Sunny Yadav 10-4. Ranjeet from Haryana defeated Sonu from the services, to capture gold in the 63 kg category.

Wrestlers from the Services secured 190 points to lead the team championships while Haryana followed with 172 points. Delhi had to remain satisfied on the third position having accumulated 146 points.

Though Haryana and Services had four gold medals each, Services took the top position, having additional three silver medals and two bronze medals. On the other hand, Haryana had four bronze medals and lacked in the number of silvers. Delhi had four silver medalsĀ but could clinch only one gold in 82 kg category. The tenth gold went to Chandigarh in 130 kg.

Ravin from Haryana won over Manoj from Delhi in the 55 kg category, while Haryana's Ravinder subdued Delhiā€™s Sourav by 9-0. Ajay from services won the 72 kg category by defeating Delhi's Arun. Sunil and Deepanshu claimed 87 kg and 97 kg gold respectively.

Lokesh and Yatender from Uttar Pradesh, Paras from Himachal Pradesh, Lal Singh from Punjab, Sumit Tomar from Delhi and Ashok Kumar from Rajasthan won the bronze medals in their respective categories.Ā
