India’s 4x400m mixed relay team ended their World Athletics Championships on the seventh place in the final race of the tournament after a number of fumbles painted a bad picture for the team. However, the team had already ensured their Olympics berth last week by ending third in the heats.

The quartet running their last race in Doha was the same - Muhammed Anas, V K Vismaya, Jisna Mathew and Tom Nirmal Noah. And while they bettered their timing from the heats that had sealed their Olympics spot, they could only finish seventh in the finals.

It was Anas in lane number 8, who was running the first leg for India, and he was seen trailing very early on in the race. The second leg runner, Vismaya could have improved the poor start by her team but she could keep her speed consistent at best before passing the baton to the third-legger Jisna.

And it was there the team fumbled as Jisna was seen colliding with another athlete on her way, which robbed the team of some precious timing. Noah, the last legger, tried to recover the lost time but it was very difficult to do that and India could only finish ahead of Brazil in the seventh position. India clocked 3 minutes 15.77 seconds to finish second last, which was also their season-best timing.

India’s race on Saturday, which sealed them a place in the finals, had seen them finishing the race in 3:16.14 as they had finished third in the heats and seventh overall.

The gold medal was won by the United States, who created Worlds record timing of 3:09.34, while Jamaica won the silver medal after clocking 3:11.78 as Bahrain clinched the bronze with a timing of 3:11.82.
