Murali Kartik feels only time can tell if Ashwin can replicate his form abroad
Former India left-arm orthodox bowler Murali Kartik has claimed that only time can tell if Ashwin can be as effective on foreign soil as he is on the Indian pitches. The Chennai-born bowler also gave his opinion on the Tendulkar's suggestion on playing Ranji matches on two different wickets.
Kartik was extremely candid in his discussion with PTI stating that the Indian pitches do not offer the bowlers too much support after the first 15 overs. He went on to talk about the how the conditions in countries like England, Australia and South Africa are different from the Indian ones, therefore, cannot guarantee similar success.
Ashwin has been enjoying a purple patch in his career having picked up an astonishing 71 wickets in the year so far, with a Test match yet to play. However, the Tamil Nadu spinner's overseas average is 33.23 in 17 Tests while on home soil it stands at 20 in 26 matches.
“I am nobody to comment on that (whether Ashwin would extend his phenomenal phase overseas). Overseas conditions are very different so time will tell,” Kartik said.
“My personal belief is that Kookaburra in Indian conditions doesn’t work. The pitches don’t suit the ball and after 15 overs, whether for spinners or pacers, there is nothing left on the ball."
Kartik was also asked about what he thought about Sachin Tendulkar's suggestion of a Ranji match being played on two different pitches in either
