Stop U-19 boys from playing in IPL, says Dilip Vengsarkar
Alleging that the performances in junior cricket provide an easy entry to IPL contracts to youngsters, former Indian cricketer and current NCA director, Dilip Vengsarkar on Tuesday has put forward the “out of the box” solution of stopping U-19 boys from the IPL to curb the menace of age fraud.
Vengsarkar said that stopping U-19 boys from playing in the cash-rich Indian Premier League will go a long way in the curbing the menace of age-fudging.
"I think the best solution would be if the BCCI makes U-19 players ineligible to play in the IPL. It will sort out the issue at least to some extent," Dilip Vengsarkar told TOI on Tuesday.
"This way, the U-19 players will not fudge their age, because they won't get to play in the IPL. It can be one of the solutions to prevent age fudging," he suggested.

Alluding to the spending spree and the high-profile contracts earned by U-19 cricketers in the IPL auction last Saturday, the ex-chief selector said that many youngsters are performing purely with an eye on the lucrative IPL contract.
"Presently, we don't have any T20 tournaments for the U-19 age group, which is a good thing, because the boys should be allowed to develop their basics.
Once they cross 19, they can get into this format," he added.
