Virat achieves career-best ranking
India captain Virat Kohli has gained a place in the latest ICC Test rankings to reach a career-high 3rd position after his impressive performance against England in the Mohali Test. Among all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja has also got a promotion to the 4th place of the ICC rankings.
Virat Kohli, who currently holds the top spot in the T20 International and ODI rankings, but he had never been placed above 10th place in Tests. However, his impressive scores of 167 and 81 on either side of the England innings in the second Test at Vizag had ensured that he crossed the 800-point mark for the very first time in his career. And now after his 62 and unbeaten 6 runs at Mohali, he further strengthened his position and jumped a spot to No.3 in the batting charts.
Kohli is now 14 points away from second-ranked England batsman Joe Root. The 28-year old had started the five-match Test series against England at 15th place. Australian skipper Steve Smith maintained his top-rank in the ICC rankings.
All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who struck his career-best of 90 runs in the third Test against England, has now attained fourth position in the Test all-rounder rankings while Ravichandran Ashwin has maintained his No.1 spot on the list.
Jonny Bairstow, who made a valiant 89 in the first innings of the third Test, has been promoted to the ninth place for the first-ever time in his career.
