The BCCI were left red-faced on Sunday as its official site bcci.tv crashed for over 18 hours due to non-payment of dues by former IPL head Lalit Modi. The domain was registered under Modi's name, who is involved in a legal battle with the BCCI over an account opened in South Africa before IPL 2009.

Sunday, February 4, was a joyous day for Indians all across the globe as the U-19 Indian team had managed to emerge victorious in the finals of the U-19 World Cup against Australia in New Zealand. But happiness turned to disaster in a bizarre turn of events for the BCCI as their official domain bcci.tv crashed from Saturday to Sunday evening, with some issues popping up even today.

The Indian Express quoted a top BCCI official who said that the domain was registered in the name of former IPL czar Lalit Modi, who had a falling out with the BCCI. Upon the realization that the site was down, BCCI officials tried everything they could to get the site back up and running immediately.

“The BCCI spoke to representatives of the entity through which the domain name is registered when the site and emails were down. They told us that there was some issue and the domain registrars couldn’t accept credit card payment. They told us the matter would be resolved soon,” the BCCI official told Indian Express.

The same official clarified that an undertaking had been given in the Bombay HC that Lalit Modi(registrant) would not do anything to stop the usage of the domain by the BCCI and would continue handling the payment part.

CircleOfCricket highlighted that the BCCI website’s registration details show that the registrant is Lalit Modi with the organization of the name Modi Enterprises (owned by Modi himself). The official website of the IPL, iplt20.com, was also owned by Modi's company. However, the ownership was handed over subsequently.

BCCI and Modi have been engaged in legal battles since 2010 after the former Rajasthan Cricket Association chief was suspended on 22 charges. He was subsequently banned for life in 2013.
