BCCI HQ can only be in Mumbai as per Lodha reforms, says CK Khanna
BCCI acting president, CK Khanna, sent an email to all board members explaining that BCCI could not move headquarters from Mumbai citing the Lodha reforms as the reason. The BCCI was plotting to shift to their newly acquired 40-acre plot in Bangalore to reduce the expenses of the board.
Various outlets reported that the BCCI considered abandoning their current rented premises at the Cricket Centre in Mumbai in order to move to the huge 40-acre plot in the outskirts of Bangalore owned by the board itself.
But in a bizarre revelation, Khanna has sent out an email on Tuesday to all the Board members where has asked the Supreme Court chosen Committee of Administrators (CoA) to take a final call on the issue of shifting of the BCCI headquarters to Bangalore from Mumbai, because as per the Lodha reforms, board headquarters has to be in the city of Mumbai.
"Dear all, in continuation of my e-mail dated 06.02.18, I wish to apprise you all that the proposal for the development of the BCCI Headquarters in 40 acres land in Bengaluru was discussed by some of the respected members of the BCCI with me and the same was only forwarded to you all for your kind information," the letter acquired by TOI read.
"It is reiterated herein that the proposal to shift the BCCI Headquarters to Bengaluru is based on the intention to develop a state of the art headquarters for the board to enable it to cater to the growing organizational needs."
The acting president further went on to describe the actual nature of the problem as to why the shifting of HQ is highly unlikely as he said, "However as per 'Clause 2' of the Rules & Regulations of the Hon'ble Justice Lodha Committee Report, the Headquarters of the Board is to be located at Mumbai only.
"In light of this fact, it is requested that the proposal of the members be kindly considered by the Hon'ble CoA keeping in view the above-said clause as enshrined in the rules & regulations. In case the CoA deems it necessary, the proposal may be brought to the kind attention of the Hon'ble Supreme Court who may guide the way forward."
