Pakistan Cricket Board Pakistan has revealed that Ahmed Shehzad failed a drug test conducted in Faisalabad during the 50-over Pakistan Cup in last week of April, which might lead to a four-year ban. He has until July 18 to choose if he wants his B sample tested and respond to charges by July 27.

The Board mentioned that as per ICC rules, they could not confirm the name of the player until and unless the news was backed by Pakistan's anti-doping agency. Shehzad, who is now confirmed of having committed the act, will be receiving a formal charge sheet issued by the PCB that usually comes after two months of the test.

He will have until July 18 to decide if he wants his blood sample tested and will be given time until July 27 to respond to the charges that has been put upon him. However, if the second test comes in his favour, Shehzad's suspension will be immediately lifted.

As of now he has temporarily been suspended from partaking in matches and will not play internationally. In the long list of illegal activities attempted by players of Pakistan, this has been the most recent one which can prove fatal for Shehzad's career. He was recruited for two T20l matches, earning a score of 14 and 24 last month. However, he had to miss out in the three T20l series against Zimbabwe.

Pakistan players have a long history of failing drug tests. Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif were found administering banned substances in 2006, but were saved by a tribunal set aside their drug tests. Pakistani bowler Raza Hasan, however, had to face a ban of two years for flunking a drug test in 2015. Yasir Shah and Abdur Rehman have also received bans in recent years, owing to have performed such an act.
