IPL 2018 | Sanju Samson optimistic ahead of their do or die clash against Kings XI Punjab
Ahead of Rajasthan's do-or-die clash against Punjab, Sanju Samson has spoken on his team’s chances on a positive note. The middle-order batsman also expressed his desire for big names like Ajinkya Rahane, Jaydev Unadkat, Ben Stokes, and Jos Buttler to fire in the business end of the IPL.
Ahead of the all-important clash between Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals at Holkar Stadium, Indore on Sunday, Rajasthan Royal star performer of the season, Sanju Samson, has voiced his confidence in his team’s ability to turn things around towards the end of IPL. Rajasthan Royals are currently sitting at the bottom of the points table, winning just 3 matches from 8 outings so far. While claiming a spot in playoffs looks an arduous task from here, the 22-year-old emphasized that the pressure situations might get the best out of the team.
“If we lose any game, we are out and we know that. We are under pressure. At the same time, it is a good opportunity for us. Such crunch situations might help the team as the entire unit would take the field with desperation and belief," said Sanju, as quoted by TOI.
With the absence of their regular captain and star batsman Steve Smith, the onus was on big names like Ajinkya Rahane, Ben Stokes, Darcy Short, Jos Buttler to take the team through with a collective effort, but all of them have failed miserably apart from here and there knocks, which cost the team badly. However, their new pick in this auction, Jofra Archer has done a magnificent job with the ball.
"This is the business end of the tournament and these are the important matches. We hope that they do well for the team," Said Samson, who is the second highest run-getter for his team with 282 runs in 8 matches.
There has been much hype over Punjab’s new home ground at Holkar Stadium in Indore - among the smallest grounds in this year IPL. The match played between Mumbai Indians and Kings Eleven Punjab here, didn’t witness a high score despite smallest boundaries and Samson feels there is a bit of assist for the bowlers as well.
"I think this is the smallest ground in this year's IPL. I thought the match between Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab will be a high-scoring one. Yet, the first innings score was between 170 and 180. So, you never know, what is going to happen in the middle," Said the Keralite.
"The wicket is helping the bowlers as well. Yesterday, the ball held on a bit. It will be an even game for both batsmen and bowlers. (Though it's high-scoring pitch), you need to give respect to the bowlers at the same time," he signed off, while quickly heading back to start the practice session.”
