World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has warned that the ICC will be declared non-compliant due to the BCCI’s continued reluctance to come under India's anti-doping body - the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA). This can severely hurt the chances of cricket's inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has sent out a warning shot to the International Cricket Council as it issued them a notice over the Indian cricket board's (BCCI) continued reluctance to comply with India's anti-doping watchdog, the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA). According to recent revelations by the WADA, the anti-doping body informed ICC that it would be forced to recommend ICC's non-compliance of the WADA Code to its executive committee if it failed to get BCCI to adhere to WADA’s demands.

"Should the ICC not address the non-conformities by October 4, 2018, the (WADA) Taskforce will have to present the case to WADA's external compliance review committee (CRC) for further discussion and possible recommendation of noncompliance of your organisation to the WADA executive committee," read a letter written to ICC by WADA's chief compliance manager - Emiliano Simonelli, as reported by TOI.

The Taskforce is an internal, multi-departmental group which is responsible for addressing Code compliance-related matters. They come into play when non-conformities cannot be solved by the relevant organisation and reports them to WADA's CRC.

If the ICC were to be declared non-compliant to WADA's Code, it will severely hurt the chances of cricket being introduced in future Olympic Games. It is a well known fact that the ICC is keen on cricket being included in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

Earlier, TOI had quoted ICC CEO Dave Richardson, who said that efforts were being made to get the BCCI to adhere to the WADA norms and reach a middle-ground with the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) to be included in the Olympic Games. While NADA has been pressing hard to get the BCCI under its jurisdiction, the Indian cricket board has said that it's not a national sports federation funded by the government.

"The ICC shall take full responsibility for any of its affiliated national federation or other member that is preventing a National Anti-Doping Organisation from exercising its testing authority as provided in the code. The letter stated that the WADA's Taskforce had discussed the matter, including the update provided by the ICC to WADA on May 30, 2018, at its June 27 meeting," the letter read.
