It was a good feeling making my debut, reveals Rahkeem Cornwall
Rahkeem Cornwall has expressed his satisfaction on having broken into the national Test lineup and stated that it was nice to have claimed Cheteshwar Pujara’s wicket. He also said that his approach depends on pitch’s behaviour and that the team was hoping to have ended the day with one more wicket.
26-year-old Rahkeem Cornwall on Friday became Test cricket’s heaviest Test cricketer of all time weighing 140 kg. The all-rounder has earned his place in the team after astounding performances in the domestic circuit, be it weaving webs with his off-spin or hitting the ball out of the park in typical Caribbean style. He will be looking to help his team get off the charts in the inaugural World Test Championships after a massive loss in the opening game, and even has a chance of doing that as far as the second match is concerned.
"It was a good feeling making my debut. I think the ball was coming on to the bat well. Now we have to work hard and put the ball in the right areas. It was an even day, the bowlers put in the hard yards," Cornwall stated, reported Cricbuzz.
Cheteshwar Pujara became his first and so far, the only victim but Cornwall had subdued celebrations before returning to bowl, eager to do more damage with the ball.
“Good feeling to get him as my first Test wicket. It was nothing really new to me but it was a good feeling," he claimed.
Towering at a height of 6’6”, he manages to generate unusual bounce for a spinner while also being adept in the art of turning the ball. However, Cornwall stated that it didn’t matter much and he had to regulate his bowling according to what the conditions have to offer.
"It all depends on the pitch, depends on what it is giving me. I just assess the conditions and decide how we can go from there," Cornwall added.
The day ended with India on 264/5, a good score considering the grass-laden pitch and the help it has been offering to the bowlers. Cornwall admitted that the Windies could have performed better but they are still equally favourite in the game.
"One (more) wicket would be comfortable but I think we are in a good position. When we come back tomorrow, I think we just have to take the next wickets and move forward," Cornwall concluded.
