Parupalli Kashyap stunned Chinese Taiper star Wang Tzu Wei 14-21 21-17 21-18 in a thrilling three games to enter the final of the USD 75,000 Canada Open. The 32-year-old would be playing an unseeded Li Shi Feng in the final and is definitely the clear favourite to go all the way this time.

Parupalli Kashyap had entered the tournament as the sixth seed and his run has not only been spectacular, but also unbelievable. After a stunning comeback in the quarter-final of the tournament, Kashyap’s task only got steeper as he was up against the fourth-seeded Wei, who has been in his prime for quite some time now.

However, the former Indian Commonwealth Games champion was up for it and wasn’t afraid to take the match the distance. The grueling three-game encounter saw the match lasting one hour and 10 minutes before the Taiwanese broke down eventually on Saturday night.

This win also extended Kashyap’s head-to-head record against Wang to 3-0 as he had defeated the World No 30 at the India Open earlier this year in March.

Kashyap would be talking on unseeded Li Shi Feng of China in the final clash. Feng defeated Koki Watanabe of Japan 20-22 21-10 21-11 in the other semi-final, which wasn’t an easy match either. The last Kashyap reached a summit clash was at the Austrian International challenger last year.
