After winning the Guwahati leg of the first semi-final against Bengaluru FC, Juan Mascia has said that this was a big step towards the ISL final but added that there was one more game to be played. Riding on an injury time Mascia penalty, the Highlanders defeated Bengaluru by 2-1 goals yesterday.

NorthEast United FC was dominating team in the first game of the playoff stage in the ongoing fifth edition of the ISL. After taking an early lead in the first half with the help of Redeem Tlang the NEUFC side were on the verge of a draw as Xisco Hernandez had scored the equaliser with eight minutes still remaining in the game. As it was looking like the game will end on a draw for both the teams, Harmanjot Khabra’s dangerous tackle saw the referee awarding a spot-kick for the Highlanders in injury time and Mascia made no mistake in converting that to ensure a win for them.

“I know we made a big step towards the final but it is not over yet. We have to play in Bengaluru. Now, we go ahead with a one-goal lead but I know, it is not finished yet. We have to fight in the next match also,” Mascia said in an interview with the ISL website.

Mascia was substituted just before the half-time when Bartholomew Ogbeche had to go out because of an injury. Mascia got an opportunity just before the full-time and didn’t miss the opportunity to score that he got in yesterday’s game.

“Well, I know how to play as a striker. I went for the ball and I scored a goal. I knew it was the final set of the match. So, I took the ball with confidence and I took the shot. That's it! We know that we had a good season. We had to continue to do the same things we do in practice during the match. That is why we came into the semi-finals,” the Uruguayan footballer explained.

When asked about the player who performed on Thursday for the team, Masia replied that it was the whole team that did well to register the win against Bengaluru FC.
