Following Chris Nenzani removal, Jacques Faul walks away from CSA chief executive role

Just hours after CSA Chairman Chris Nenzani’s removal, active CSA CEO Dr. Jacques Faul resigned from his role while COO Naasei Appiah was fired. Known as the crisis man in CSA, Faul was due to leave his position on September 15, but has opted to leave his post four weeks early.

The growing mismanagement in Cricket South Africa in the last three years has reached its pinnacle on Monday as three senior executives vacated their position - one unforced and two resigned. Bizarrely, it all happened ahead of CSA's appearance in front of parliament's portfolio committee on sport, art and culture on Friday. If a report on ESPN Cricinfo is to be believed, Faul chose to leave his post following a heated board meeting in which his position became untenable.

Known as the crisis man in South African cricket administration, Faul guided CSA through another crisis in 2012 and 2013 and was given the role of acting chief executive in December in the wake of the suspension of Thabang Moroe on allegations of misconduct. While no name has been announced so far, it seems like CSA company secretary Welsh Gwaza and chief commercial officer Kugandrie Govender are the front-runners for the role.

With Nenzani leaving his role 18 days prior to his official departure date, CSA will elect a new president on September 15 with the board under increasing pressure to step down. South Africa's main opposition party, the Democratic Alliance (DA), also issued a statement demanding Nenzani to appear before parliament to answer questions over his role in the administrative meltdown. The political party has also called vice-president Beresford Williams to give answers on the mess up that happened at the board in the last three years.
