Women’s Hundred | Shabnim Ismail’s spell falls short as Deepti Sharma's six seals London’s Title

London Spirit defeated Welsh Fire by four wickets to claim the title at Lord’s. Jess Jonassen’s maiden half-century powered Welsh Fire to 115/8, while Shabnim Ismail spearheaded the Welsh bowling attack whereas Deepti Sharma’s crucial six in the final set secured victory for London Spirit.

‌After three and a half weeks of thrilling action, the Women’s Hundred concluded with London Spirit taking on Welsh Fire at the iconic Lord’s. London Spirit captain Heather Knight won the toss and chose to field first. Welsh Fire openers Tammy Beaumont and Sophia Dunkley started cautiously, advancing the score to 15/0 in two sets. However, Welsh Fire's innings suffered a setback when Tara Norris dismissed Dunkley on the 15th delivery. The situation worsened as Sarah Glenn quickly took the wickets of Beaumont and Sarah Bryce, leaving Welsh Fire at 32/3 after 29 deliveries. Despite the early setbacks, Hayley Matthews and Jess Jonassen added 27 runs to the score, bringing Welsh Fire to 58/3 in 60 deliveries. Matthews and Jonassen struggled to accelerate, but Jonassen played a resilient innings, scoring a 39-ball fifty to help Welsh Fire reach 115/7 in 100 deliveries.

In response, London Spirit faced early challenges as Shabnim Ismail dismissed Meg Lanning, followed by Cordelia Griffith falling to Georgia Davis. Heather Knight and Georgia Redmayne stabilized the innings, advancing to 44/2. Ismail struck again to remove Knight, but Danielle Gibson and Redmayne kept the scoreboard ticking. London Spirit needed 37 runs off 35 deliveries, which was reduced to 28 off 30. Shabnim Ismail demonstrated her skill once more by dismissing Gibson with a superb delivery. With 11 runs required off 10 balls, Freya Davies dismissed Redmayne, creating a tense finish. But Deepti Sharma remained calm and hit a crucial six off the third ball, winning the title for London. With the six,  London Spirit won by four wickets claiming the Women’s Hundred title for the first time.
