Not often do you see brute power fail to cultivate the desirable outcome. Even Tennis sensation Novan Djokovic was stunned when Marcus Stoinis’ meticulous hit failed to clear the boundary rope at the Marvel Stadium as Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades locked horns on Sunday.

In an attempt to dominate the infamous Melbourne derby of the Big Bash League, Will Sutherland, the Renegades skipper chose to field first after winning the toss. The decision paid off well with the new ball bowlers making early inroads. The Stars lost four wickets by the seventh over before skipper Stoinis followed suit, leaving Djokovic in the stands stunned.

Having hit a six and a four off a pull and flick in the eighth over, Stoinis was greeted with yet another loosener by Tom Rogers on the third ball of the over. However, the ‘Hulk’ failed to clear the ropes despite bludgeoning the ball off the meat of the bat. The white rock went way too high when Stoinis struck the fuller delivery at the stumps with disdain. The white rock almost touched the roof of the Marvel Stadium before projecting downtown towards Kane Richardson for a simple catch at long-on. Subsequently, the camera caught Djokovic candidly in the stands, who was shellshocked by the outcome of the delivery, thinking it to hover over the ropes.

Djokovic stunned!
