Amidst a flash flood warning Pakistan’s hope to reach the Super Eight stage was drenched by poor ground facilities and rain outburst in Lauderhill. After almost 180 minutes of delay, the play between Ireland and the USA was called off with the former cementing a place in the Super Eight stage.

After a couple of wins against Canada and Pakistan, the USA earned four points before suffering a defeat against India. They eyed to seal a Super Eight spot by squaring off against Ireland at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground on June 14, and rain helped their cause by handing them a shared point, thereby taking them to a points tally in four matches.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s chances of making the Super Eight concluded after rain played spoilsport in the USA versus Ireland clash. Following their win against Canada, the Asian side was hoping for an Ireland win against the co-hosts that would lead them to a must-win game against Ireland on June 17. Although there was no rain at the scheduled start of play, wet outfield delayed the toss procedure. Following successive inspections from the officials, the captains of both sides agreed to shake hands and share a point each. This will be the first time in T20 World Cup history that the USA would be participating in the Super Eight stage.
