Melbourne Renegades beat Sydney Sixers by six wickets in their last group game in the Women’s Big Bash League. Georgia Wareham picked up a three-wicket haul to restrict the visitors to a modest total before helming the chase with an unbeaten 49 to keep the home side in contention for a playoff spot.

‌Melbourne Renegades continued to keep themselves in contention for a playoff spot in the Women’s Big Bash League 2025 campaign with a six-wicket win over Sydney Sixers in Melbourne on Friday. Georgia Wareham came up with an impressive all-round performance, picking up three wickets and scoring 49 runs, as the home side ended their league engagements with 10 points from 10 games. However, the defending champions will still need Perth Scorchers and Adelaide Strikers to drop points in their remaining games for them to make it to the knockouts.

After being put into bat first at the Junction Oval, a star-studded Sixers’ lineup, with the exception of Ellyse Perry, flattered to deceive managing just 130/9 in their allotted 20 overs. The all-rounder top-scored for the visitors with 65 off 47 balls, a knock which included nine fours and a six, with skipper Ashleigh Gardner (16) being the only other batter to record double digits. Meanwhile, leg-spinner Wareham was the best bowler on display for the hosts picking up 3/21, including the wicket of Alyssa Healy, in four overs, with fellow spinner Alice Capsey also chipping in with two wickets.

The Renegades did not have a promising start to their chase, losing two wickets in the first two overs to be reduced to 4/2. Things went further south as they were placed at a worrying 56/4 at the halfway mark with a further 75 more runs required. However, Wareham and Courtney Webb made light work off the chase putting on an unbeaten stand of 85 runs in just 43 balls. After a cautious start the pair admirably shifted gears to help the side past the target to finish at 134/4 with 22 balls to spare. Wareham ended the chase with a blitz, smashing four boundaries and a six in the last six balls she faced to reach 49 off just 29 balls, while Webb had four boundaries in her 21-ball 33. For the visitors, medium pacer Maitlan Brown picked up two wickets, albeit being expensive, conceding 45 runs in her four-over spell.
