Anupam Pandey

India starts the T20I series against Ireland with a win by 48 runs. Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan helped the Indian team to post a massive total against the hosts. Following this, Ravi Bishnoi impressed with his bowling performances, as India restricted Ireland long way short of the target.

Pitch and Weather

The match will be played at the Civil Service Cricket Club, which is expected to offer a lively batting surface with true bounce and good pace. The new ball is expected to have some swing under the Irish conditions, which will make things challenging for the new batters. Once batters are set, they will be able to capitalise on shorter square boundaries and true bounce. Seamers who use variations will find assistance in the death overs, but spinners won't be able to do much here. The weather conditions for this game are cool with partly cloudy skies and light breeze.

Toss

Ireland wins the toss and decides to bat first. The team aims to cause an upset by dismissing the Indian batters to a low total, using the new ball at its best.

Match Report

India was able to produce an all-round performance against Ireland at Belfast to win the first T20I by 48 runs. After being sent to bat first, the team suffered with an early setback as Liam McCarthy dismissed Sanju Samson in the second over. But Abhishek Sharma was able to counterattack the bowlers to a great extent, as he attacked the pacers fearlessly on the off side. With Ishan Kishan, he went on to add 82 runs in just 46 balls, as the Indian team scored 67/1 in the powerplay.

Once Abhishek lost his wicket after scoring 58 runs off 30 balls, Shreyas Iyer rotated strike effectively while Tilak Varma started to attack the spinners. Ireland was able to pull things back in the middle overs with the help of Matthew Humphreys and Gareth Delany. But Shivam Dube played an explosive cameo of 34 runs off 16 balls, which helped the Indian team to finish at 196/6 in 20 overs.

Ireland was able to have a strong start, as Ross Adair attacked the bowlers from the first ball. But Arshdeep Singh gave an early blow by dismissing him with a late inswinger. Harry Tector and Lorcan Tucker were able to rebuild the innings with their 61-run stand, which ensured that Ireland stood in the game.

The turning point arrived when Ravi Bishnoi took two wickets in the same over, dismissing Tucker and George Dockrell with his googlies. Harshit Rana then impressed with his pace, as Prince Yadav showed his discipline in the death overs. Even though Harry Tector scored 54 runs off 40 balls, Ireland was restricted at 148/9 in 20 overs, losing the game by 48 runs.

Player of the Match

Abhishek Sharma wins the Player of the Match award for scoring 58 runs off 30 balls, which set the tone for the Indian team to post a massive total.
