The Brazilian Football Confederation has sacked coach Dunga, team coordinator Gilmar Rinaldi, and the entire backroom staff after the 0-1 defeat against Peru, which knocked them out of the Copa America. With the Olympics looming large on the horizon, the CBF are now desperate to replace him quickly.

“The Brazilian Football Confederation announce that on Tuesday, the decision was taken to dissolve the technical committee of the Brazilian national team. Team coordinator, Gilmar Rinaldi, coach Dunga and his entire team will leave their respective positions.

“The decision was taken in agreement during a meeting this afternoon and, from now, the CBF starts the process of choosing the new technical committee of the Brazilian national team.

“CBF thank the dedication, the seriousness and commitment of the staff while performing the work,” read an official statement published by the CBF on Tuesday.

Brazil finished third in the Group B of the 2016 Copa America Centenario after managing just one win from three matches. The loss against Peru in the last group game signaled the end of Dunga's second regime at the helm of the national team after he helped them lift the Copa America back in 2007.

His first reign came to an end after the quarter-final exit in the 2010 World Cup, and it was a huge surprise when the CBF once again announced him as the replacement for Luiz Felipe Scolari four years later.

The CBF now have the tough task of replacing Dunga with the right candidate, especially with the Rio Olympics firmly in their sight.
