Zidane: Not only Ronaldo gets upset when he is substituted
Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane has refuted reports of a rift between him and Cristiano Ronaldo stating that it is normal for any player to be upset when they are substituted. Ahead of their Champions League tie against Dortmund, Zidane has said he will approach the game with a fresh mind.
Real Madrid look to be in a shaky form of lately as their consecutive draws against Villarreal and Las Palmas in the La Liga had given rivals Barcelona a chance to go to the top in the points table. After a lacklustre performance against Las Palmas last week, Cristiano Ronaldo walked off the pitch in frustration after being replaced by Lucas Vasquez in the 72 minute, which led to reports that the decision to sub the Portuguese had led to a rift between him and Zidane.
But the Frenchman brushed aside the reports saying that he had already talked to his star man.
"Not only Ronaldo gets upset when he is substituted. Everyone does. Everything is normal, everything is good.”
“We have to live with the discussions. I'm not stupid, he's not stupid.”
Speaking ahead of the Champions clash against Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund, Zidane said,"We have travelled here with just one goal and we're thinking only about the game."
"I'm not worried(about our current form). We can certainly play better, but sometimes such games are also good, such results sometimes shake you awake," he added.
Dortmund have never lost to Real at the Signal Iduna Park, while Tuesday's visitors have won just four times in 29 away games against German clubs.
"We know where we stand. We are Real Madrid and want to win every game," said Zidane.
Real had to face defeats in their last three visits to Dortmund with the 4-0 loss in 2013 in the semifinals being the heaviest. But Zidane said that their poor record in Germany does not bother him.
"I do not think of the last few games in Dortmund. Every game is different,” Zidane said.
Real face Dortmund on Tuesday in the Champions League group stage, at the Signal Iduna Park, while they host Eibar on Saturday at the Santiago Bernabéu, in La Liga.
