EPL Roundup | Raheem Sterling secures late win for Manchester City while United make it three in a row
Rahim Sterling's stoppage time goal ensured Manchester City finished 2-1 against Bournemouth in week three of the English Premier League. Meanwhile, Manchester United continued their dominant run against Leicester City and finished 2-0 maintaining a clean sheet for the third consecutive match.
Bournemouth 1-2 Manchester City
Pep Guardiola started the proceedings sans star striker Sergio Aguero away at Bournemouth raising many eyebrows in the process. The hosts were the first to break the deadlock and took a lead over the English giants in the 13th minute when Vincent Kompany's cleared cross was blasted past the City keeper by Charlie Daniels from an acute angle.
Bournemouth's clinical striker Jermaine Defoe could have made it 2-1 for the home team but missed out narrowly from 10 yards out. Guardiola's move of starting Gabriel Jesus ahead of Aguero paid off when Jesus scored the equalizer in the 21st minutes via a quickly taken free-kick. Manchester United 2-0 Leicester City
Manchester United continued their dominant start registering their third consecutive victory against Leicester City on Saturday. The Red Devils looked in great touch and started the game on the offensive. Paul Pogba looked lethal and did not shy away from taking long-range shots that were agonizingly close to the target but just missed the mark. However, United's best chance came when Romelu Lukaku tested Kasper Schmeichel whose rebounded save was buried into the net by Juan Mata. The goal, however, was ruled out as Mata was adjudged offside but replays showed otherwise.
The first half ended with Manchester United dominating the run of play and the Leicester defense holding their fort against the home team. The second half started on the same note with the Red Devils' persistent attacks on Leicester's goal. The attacks finally produced an opportunity when Danny Simpson handled Anthony Martial’s cross inside the area. Romelu Lukaku stepped up to the spot but was denied by a spectacular save from Schmeichel in the 53rd minute.
With the home team failing to find any openings, Jose Mourinho brought on Marcus Rashford to boost the United attack and the move straight away led to the first goal when Rashford turned in a corner from Henrik Mkhitaryan. The two other substitutions, Jesse Lingard and Marouane Fellaini, combined in the 81st minute to seal the game for the home team with the latter scoring albeit from an offside position.

Rafa Benitez's Newcastle United registered their first victory in the league and the Magpies did it in style scoring 3 goals against West Ham United.
