Kerala Blaster fans were in for a sad news just weeks before the start of the fifth ISL season as Sachin Tendulkar decided to step down as the co-promoter of the two-time runners-up after four years. However, Tendulkar has clarified that he would continue to be the co-owner of the team.

Having a constant support in the stands in the form of the Master Blaster himself might have been one of the biggest reasons why Kerala Blasters were able to garner such a huge response from its supporters. The Manjappada has definitely been one of the biggest positives in ISL since its inception five years back. However, the craze could mellow down a bit in the upcoming season with Tendulkar making it unsure if he would be present for the matches that often. Tendulkar, who has been one of the owners of the franchise along with industrialist Nimmagadda Prasad, producer Allu Arjun, and actors Nagarjuna and Chiranjeevi, has been eyeing to move away from the public eye now.

“In its fifth year, it is important that the club puts the building blocks for the next five years and beyond. It is also a time for me to reflect on the role that I should play. After reflecting and much discussion with my team, I have decided to exit my association with Kerala Blasters as a co-promoter," Tendulkar said in a statement, reported PTI.

"I strongly believe that Kerala Blasters is in very good shape and on its path to attain many more successes with the backing of its fans offering unconditional support. I am very proud of Kerala Blasters and a piece of my heart will always beat for the club."

It has also been rumoured now that some billionaire industrialist could be buying Tendulkar’s stake. Tendulkar had jointly purchased the Kochi-based franchise back in April 2014 with entreprenuer Prasad V Potluri. Potluri, however, sold his stakes to Tendulkar a year later to make him 40 percent stakeholder in the franchise.

Later, Prasad and Southern filmstars came to acquire the remaining 60 percent and join hands with Tendulkar. It was also reported that they had an additional 20 percent acquisition from Tendulkar’s share.
