Raheem Sterling, currently on loan at Arsenal from Chelsea, ranked Cristiano Ronaldo fifth in his all-time top players list. He placed Brazilian legends Ronaldo Nazario (R9) and Ronaldinho in the top four, with Lionel Messi third and Neymar second. Sterling, with 82 England caps, has played for Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Arsenal during his decorated career.
Amongst the footballers, there has always been a debate on who ranks the highest, and Raheem Sterling has added his voice to this conversation. The 30-year-old England international, currently on loan at Arsenal from Chelsea, recently revealed his top five players of all time. Surprising many, he ranked Cristiano Ronaldo only fifth, placing the legendary Portuguese forward behind R9 (Ronaldo Nazário) at fourth. Lionel Messi secured the third spot, with Neymar taking second place. He said:
“Cristiano Ronaldo at fifth, which is mad. For me then, R9 [Ronaldo Nazario] four. Messi at three, Neymar [at two].Ronaldinho [was my idol]. That's who I... if you saw my history on YouTube, I think I've watched every single clip of his playing career. That was the player I used to go in the garden and try to recreate, which I could have never done. I tried it to the best of my ability but he was so special. What I really like about Neymar is every time he loses the ball, or tries something, he goes again. He doesn’t get disheartened. He has that winner’s mentality.”
Sterling's number one choice was Ronaldinho, the Brazilian icon, who had been his childhood idol. Sterling has had a stellar career, playing for top clubs like Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Arsenal, and he has shared the field with greats like Sergio Aguero and Bukayo Saka. Despite his struggles at Arsenal, Sterling’s career boasts 131 goals and 73 assists in 339 appearances for City, contributing to multiple Premier League titles and other major trophies.
