It was another disappointment for India at the 2018 Asian Games as the women’s kabaddi team had to settle for the second spot on the podium after they lost in the final to the Iranian women’s team. The Indians suffered a big upset in as they lost 27-24 in the final despite taking the lead early on.

Yesterday’s semi-final loss in the men’s kabaddi competition was a huge shocker to Indian fans all across the globe as the favorites to clinch gold were beaten by the Iranian men’s team by a score of 27-18. That was the first time they failed to reach the final of the Asian Games in 28 years.

That put pressure on the women’s kabaddi team to be at their best against the same opponents in the final of the women’s kabaddi event in Indonesia. But fate had something else in mind as the Indians were narrowly beaten in the final by a score of 27-24. India began brilliantly as they raced away to a lead of 5 points in the initial stage. India led 6-2 after first 5 minutes when raider Jafari was eliminated.

But then Ghazal Khalaj of Iran brought back a point after a stunning turnaround to finish a raid and Iran were right back in it. But Payal Chaudhary cancelled it out in the next raid after getting a touch off her feet.

But Iran fought their way to a lead in the second half with Jafari getting a touch to get a point and only for Iran to take down India's raider to get another, which they followed by an all-out to get three points. India were at 14 as they trailed Iran by three points. Indian skipper Payal Chaudhary pulled one back for India but the Iranians maintained their lead of three points.

Iran led India 23-20 with just five minutes remaining in the match. Sakshi Kumari got the Indians back in the game with a five-point raid only for her to be down as Iran got three points and beat India 27-24. India failed to grab the gold in Women's Kabaddi for the first time in three editions.
