PKL 2019 | We are only halfway where we want to be, says Naveen Kumar
Dabang Delhi's Naveen Kumar, while accepting praises for his recent performances, has said that they are only halfway from where they want to be and they need to continue the momentum. Naveen Kumar equalled Pardeep Narwal’s record of eight consecutive Super 10s in his last match against Mumba.
When a game finishes with a scoreline of 40-24 one thinks it would have been a one-sided match but that wasn’t the case in the match last night between Dabang Delhi and U Mumba. U Mumba started strong as they were able to keep Dabang Delhi’s raiders quiet and gained an early lead by 0-4. Naveen Kumar, Dabang Delhi’s biggest raiding asset was only able to score two points in the first half. But you can’t keep Delhi out of the game for long and so they recovered quickly and ended the first half with a three-point lead.
In the second half it seemed like they started the game with new energy, Naveen started getting points in successive raids and U Mumba was all-out for the first three minutes into the second half. Delhi built on from that and went to break U Mumba’s back as Delhi's both corners scored a high five and Naveen scored a Super 10 also with that he equalled Pardeep Narwal's PKL Record Of Most Consecutive (8) Super 10s.
“I’m happy to have achieved something that only one of India’s best raiders, Pardeep Narwal, has achieved so far. But, we are only halfway where we want to be. We need to continue the momentum,” Naveen said in the post-match press conference.
In defence both the corners performed brilliantly and made sure that U Mumba raiders were kept out of the game. Right corner Ravinder Pahal scored eight tackle points with a 100 per cent strike-rate. Whereas skipper Joginder Narwal scored six tackle points. It was this all-round performance which helped Delhi break the home leg jinx by winning all three of their home matches till now.
“The credit goes to the team. The offence and the defence, both, were incredible tonight. They deserve all the credit,” coach Krishan Kumar Hooda explained.
