Explosive Amjyot downs Palestine in Asian basketball

Amjyot Singh led India to a remarkable 73-70 victory over Palestine in the second round of the 2015 FIBA Asia Basketball Championship for men in Changsha-Hunan, China.

Forward Amjyot exploded with 32 points and a game-changing 11 rebounds, three assists and an equal number of steals in a match that went down to the wire.

The lead changed hands frequently before India edged ahead 49-47 at the end of the third quarter in what was essentially a battle between the big three – India’s Amjyot, Amrit Pal Singh and Vishesh Bhirguvanshi and Palestine’s Abu-Shamala, Sani Sakakini and Imad Qahwash.

Skipper Bhriguvanshi scored 17 points and Amrit Pal 14 apart from nine rebounds as India registered their second win in four starts.

Palestine had, in fact, led 61-60 halfway into the final quarter before India rode on a 9-2 streak highlighted by Amjyot’s slam-dunk for a six-point cushion with a minute to go.

India next play Hong Kong on Monday.
