India secured 22 gold, 17 silver and 4 bronze medals on day 6 of the 12th South Asian Games to go past their best-ever medal haul in the history of the Games, which they set in the 2006 edition in Colombo. India now has 238 medals overall and looks set to add more with five more days remaining.

On day 6 of the competition, athletics, shooting and tennis contributed the majority of the medals to India’s tally. In shooting, Chain Singh pipped 2012 Olympics bronze medallist Gagan Narang in the men’s 50m rifle prone event to grab the top spot. Chain Singh shot 628.9 points in qualification and edged his much-fancied compatriot in the final by 0.9 points to take the gold with 204.6 points. The duo, along with Surendra Singh Rathod, also won the team gold with 1871.5 points to continue India’s golden run in shooting. (Also Read: Apurvi Chandela - The Girl with the golden trigger)
