Sudhakar Shetty has no time to look after Gymnastics Federation of India, writes IOA president Narinder Batra
Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Narinder Batra has written to the International Gymnastics Federation, alleging that Sudhakar Shetty, the head of GFI, has no interest in the sport. Batra further revealed that Shetty himself was unaware that his signatures were being forged by others.
In a letter addressed to FIG president Morinari Watanabe and General Secretary Nicolas Buompane, dated October 13, Batra alleged that all is not well within the GFI and requested the world body to look into the governance issues.Â
“I have been made aware of the situation within GFI over 12 months that the GFI president is hardly aware of anything going on in GFI. He does not have time for GFI, Batra wrote, reported PTI.
“I was informed that the signatures on letters being sent under the name of GFI President are being forged by one gentleman by the name of maybe Mr Deepak and he also had passwords of the emails...all emails/along with letters to FIG was being done by him only and it was known that the GFI president may not be aware of many things,” he wrote.
The GFI, which is slated to go to the polls on November 3, had been asked by the FIGÂ to get its electoral college approved by the IOA chief. However, Batra revealed that Shetty denied any knowledge of this October 1 letter from the world body or his subsequent reply letter, dated October 7.
“Mr Shetty categorically told me that he has not seen the letter sent by FIG on October 1, 2019, wherein FIG wants verification of electoral college by IOA president. Mr Shetty,” Batra further.
Batra said that Shetty further confirmed to him that a person was faking/forging his (Shetty’s) signatures and he had asked the GFI office to terminate the services of that person.
“It is entirely up to him as to how he puts his house in order and adopt good governance practices within his office. I personally will have no issue if I am not wanted to verify the list of voters (in the electoral college) as I do not want to be a roadblock to anyone. FIG may look into the governance issue of its member unit from India,” Batra added.
