China Open | Andy Murray lifts trophy; Radwanska wins 20th WTA title

World No.2 Andy Murray hardly broke a sweat in his match against Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov to win the final of the China Open on Sunday for his fifth title of the season. In the women’s event, Agnieszka Radwanska defeated Johanna Konta to lift her second China Open title in five years.

Murray made an immediate head-start in the final breaking Dimitrov in his very first service game, and did well to hold in the remaining games, which helped him win the set 6-4. In the second set, both players started out cautiously, but Murray yet again managed a crucial break in the fifth game, which saw him take a lead. But, just when he was about to serve for the match at 5-4, Dimitrov fought right back into the game, and broke him for the first time in the match, pushing the set to a tiebreaker.

Murray held his nerve in the tiebreak to win the second set 7-6(2) and subsequently clinch the match.

In the men’s doubles final played earlier, Rafael Nadal and his partner, Pablo Carreno Busta, won their first doubles title together after defeating the American-Australian pair of Jack Sock and Bernard Tomic 6-7(6), 6-2, 10-8 in a hard-fought encounter.

Meanwhile, in the women’s final, world number three Agnieszka Radwanska cruised to the title after overpowering her opponent, Johanna Konta, in straight sets. The Polish star, who did not drop a single set over the course of the tournament, raced to a 6-4, 6-2 win over the 11th seed to clinch her second China Open title in five years and her 20th WTA career title.
