Cricketers always tried their luck in inventing unorthodox shots when they want to add quickfire runs, especially in T20 cricket. However, it doesn't always work out the way you want it to as Chamara Silva discovered when he went behind his stumps to play.a shot which ended in his dismissal.

In the Mercantile club match between MAS Unichela and Teejay Lanka, the latter won the toss and invited Unichela to bat first. Unichela put up an impressive 208 runs on the board in their allotted 20 overs at the P Sara Oval in Colombo. However, that wasn't the biggest story of the day as that honour belonged to Chamara Silva who produced the most embarrassing shot of his career.

The incident occurred in the 19th over of Unichela’s innings after Kasun Madushanka had taken Ramith Rambukwella’s wicket on third delivery of his over. Silva, who has played 11 Tests, 75 ODIs and 16 T20Is for Sri Lanka, decided to have a go at the bowler from the off and hit the very first ball he faced for a maximum. However, on the very next delivery, he tried to pull off a shot that will make it into every bloopers montage that will ever be created untill the end of time. While the bowler was running upto the crease, Silva began walking behind the stumps, hoping that the bowler would follow him with a short delivery. Although the bowler did ball a shortish delivery, the ball hit the stumps before it could reach Silva’s bat.

Later, Teejay Lanka failed to find any sort of momentum in the game as they lost wickets on the consecutive intervals which helped Unichela win the game by 52 runs.
