Kamlesh Nagarkoti to train under Glenn McGrath at MRF pace foundation
After helping India win the U-19 World Cup in New Zealand last month, Kamlesh Nagarkoti is all set to train under Glenn McGrath at the MRF Pace Foundation in Chennai to prepare for the Indian Premier League. The Indian said that he is eager to learn a lot from his participation in the IPL this year.
It was India’s first match of the U-19 world cup when they faced Australia on the 14th of January, Kamlesh Nagarkoti caught the eye of the world when he bowled a 149 km/hr delivery in the match. He, with his speed and bounce, troubled the opposition batsmen in the tournament and helped India in winning the world cup. However, his exploits in the league, KKR made a bid a whopping 3.2 crores for the speedster and now, he is set to work under Glenn McGrath to prepare for the 2018 IPL season.
“MRF is a good place to learn. I am going there for the second time and I am eager to learn the nuances of different bowling variations — like the slower ball, the yorkers etc,” Nagarkoti said, reported PTI.
"This would be my second visit to MRF. I went there in 2017 and unfortunately, I suffered a groin injury then. So my time with McGrath and other coaches was limited to gym workouts, training, and rehabilitation along with sessions on medium pace, the way we grip the ball etc. I am looking forward to my visit, later this month."
After picking up 9 wickets at an average of 16.33 in the six matches in the world cup, KKR decided to add the youngster in their ranks who will help them with his pace at their newly laid turf of Eden Gardens. He is joined by Mitchell Starc and Mitchell Johnson at KKR and is eager to learn from the legends of the game.
“I am only thinking about the learning prospects the IPL is offering. It would be great to learn and understand how to bowl to a batsman like (Chris) Gayle,” Nagarkoti said.
The teenaged pacer was shocked when he got to know that he bowled a ball that clocked 149 km/hr and exclaiming the same, the Rajasthan bowler said, “We play in matches where there are no speed guns. I knew I breached the 143 kph mark in England when we played there but bowling at those speeds in the U-19 World Cup was a surprise.”Â
