Faf du Plessis to lead South Africa in Test series against India

Faf du Plessis, who lead South Africa at the recent ICC World Cup in England, will retain his role as skipper in the upcoming Test series against India. South Africa will play three T20Is against Virat Kohli & Co. from September 15 onwards, while their Test series starts on October 2 in Vizag.

South Africa endured a tough outing at the recently concluded ICC World Cup in England where they suffered some disappointing results. The Proteas side will be hoping that they can bounce back in the away series against India who were also knocked out in epic fashion in the semis against New Zealand.

Corrie van Zyl, Cricket South Africa's acting director of cricket, confirmed that limited-overs captain Faf du Plessis will stay on as the Test captain. However, he added that the decision on the captaincy for the limited-overs sides will depend on the new management's plan for the 2023 World Cup.

"Faf will be the captain of the Test team and then we will talk about the white-ball strategy to 2023 and how that will affect decision-making.

"It's important to look forward to 2023 as well. We need a strategy to 2023, so in terms of appointing the captain we will look at how we approach that. We are having a selection meeting in the next day and a half to confirm that," Van Zyl told Cricbuzz sources on Tuesday.

South Africa are scheduled play three T20Is from September 15 onwards while the Test series gets begins on October 2 in Visakhapatnam.
