Rashid Khan has said that he would have loved it if Indian players were allowed to be a part of the upcoming Euro T20 Slam but is excited to play along with some of the retired cricketers. Earlier, Anil Kumble had also stated that the BCCI should let players participate in such tournaments.

The inaugural season of the Euro T20 slam is scheduled to start from 30th of August and Rashid Khan was announced as one of the six icon players, set to ply his trade for the Rotterdam Rhinos.

Cricketers from all major cricketing nations such as Pakistan, Australia, England, and South Africa will be taking part in the league but Indian players have not been given the go-ahead to do so. However, retired cricketers such as Yuvraj Singh had sought permission from the board and his request was duly approved allowing him to play in the month-long tournament.

“Definitely. Always great to play and be with them. Playing alongside them (Indian players). Hopefully, we will get some Indian players. I think it’s allowed to have those players who retired from international cricket. I have enjoyed playing alongside them in the IPL,” Rashid Khan said, reported The Indian Express.

The league will be co-hosted by the national cricketing bodies of Ireland, Scotland and the Netherlands, with two city-based franchises from each country competing in a double round-robin format. The top four teams at the end of the group stage will qualify for the knockout rounds. 700-plus players from 22 nations had taken part in the team draft.

Rashid Khan’s team will be coached by legendary South African Herschelle Gibbs who was known for his explosive brand of batting.

“It’s great to have Gibss as he has been a great player and brings in a lot of experience,” Khan said of him.

Indian cricketers do not participate in any of the international T20 leagues such as the Big Bash League due to limitations placed by the Board. However, former head coach and legendary spinner Anil Kumble feels it is high time such restrictions were lifted.

“Yes, I feel that is something the BCCI will look at, but currently, there are certain restrictions. But having said that, you know people like Yuvi have got the permission to go and play (in Global T20). So, I don’t see any issue if some of these players want to go and play, but the BCCI will have to give them NOC. At this point in time, it is good to have someone like Yuvi play in the leagues and in the future you will perhaps see more players from India participating in the leagues,” Kumble said.
