After reaching the agreement with former French international Bernard Mendy, East Bengal have further strengthened their defence by roping in Indian international left back Narayan Das.

“We have reached an agreement with Dempo regarding Narayan Das," East Bengal official Santosh Bhattacharya was quoted as saying by Goal.com.

The 22-year-old broke into the scene with Pailan Arrows in the 2012-13 season, before signing for Goan club Dempo. He reached the final of the Indian Super League with FC Goa last season, and was part of the Indian team which won the SAFF Cup last month.

The Tata Football Academy prodigy's arrival will further boost East Bengal's shaky defence, which was earlier beefed up by roping in former PSG defender Bernard Mendy as their fourth foreigner.

Robert Lalthlamuana, who is the first choice left back for East Bengal and the club captain, did not make a bright start to this I-League campaign in the 3-1 win over Sporting Clube de Goa, where he was caught out of position numerous times. Narayan Das will fight with him for a place in the starting line-up.

Narayan Das is expected to be part of the U-23 Indian national camp in Guwahati, which will start from February 1. East Bengal will play against Mumbai FC, Mohun Bagan and DSK Shivajians before that.
