England

Alex Hales- 6/10

Hales never got going and only showed flashes of his brilliance in a 28-run knock.

Jason Roy-5/10

Started out well like his opening partner but fizzled fast as Russell sent him packing for a run-a-ball 15.

Joe Root- 7.5/10

The pick of the English batsmen, Root took it upon himself to accelerate the innings with some finely-timed shots scoring an innings-high 48.

Jos Buttler- 6.5/10

Mumbai Indians’ latest purchase must be excited playing at his IPL home, as he smacked 3 sixes enroute to 30 off 20 balls. Had he stayed on till the end, England might just have reached the 200 mark.

Eoin Morgan- 7/10

Captain Morgan’s 14-ball-27 was the cameo England needed after losing the key wickets of Buttler and Root.

Ben Stokes- 3/10

Ben Stokes had a forgettable night, especially with the ball, conceding 42 in his 3 overs and had to bear the brunt of Chris Gayle’s fury with the bat.

Moeen Ali- 5/10

His 7 runs off 2 balls in the last over of the innings pushed England past the 180 mark, but he too went for a lot of runs despite picking the odd wicket of Ramdin.

Chris Jordan- 6/10

Easily the pick of the England bowlers, with tight disciplined bowling throughout his quota of four overs giving away only 24 runs.

Adil Rashid- 5.5/10

Rashid got the dangerous-looking Samuels and broke the partnership that looked to take the game away from England. Too bad he had to face Gayle’s wrath.

David Willey- 5.5/10

Willey gave England the dream start after sending Charles back for a duck but lost his discipline later.

Reece Topley- 4.5/10

3 overs for 30 runs and no wickets. Says enough.

West Indies

Chris Gayle- 10/10

Second world T20 century for the giant West Indian earns him a perfect 10. Couldn’t have done more.

Johnson Charles- 0/10

Playing instead of Fletcher, Charles couldn’t capitalize as he perished without troubling the scorers.

Marlon Samuels- 6.5/10

Samuels was the first to put his foot on the gas, exploding when Gayle was still settling in and his impressive 37 runs provided a good platform for the rest of the players coming in to play without much hesitation.

Dinesh Ramdin- 5/10

12 runs off 14 balls isn’t quite good enough. Even behind the stumps he had not much to do, only knocking the bails off to get Ali out on the last ball.

Dwayne Bravo-6/10

Two wickets and that too of the dangerous duo of Buttler and Stokes earns him 6 points, despite a poor showing with the bat.

Andre Russell- 7.5/10

Russsell like many in the side is a T20 specialist, and he showed why with some smart bowling and then staying put with the bat till the very end.

Darren Sammy- NA

The captain had not much to do other than making the correct bowling and fielding changes.

Craig Braithwate- 4/10

One catch and two uneventful overs for 16 runs. Not much to elaborate.

Samuel Badree- 4/10

Badree is one of the most economic bowlers in T20Is, but on this occasion he conceded 8.5 runs an over without picking a wicket.

Jerome Taylor- 3/10

Taylor was so poor that Ramdin didn’t even bowl out his premier seam bowler.

Sulaiman Benn- 7/10

Benn bowled smartly, mixing it up and got the key wicket of Hales.
