Sanjay Bangar appointed as India coach for Zimbabwe tour
Former India and Railways all-rounder Sanjay Bangar has been named as the head coach for India’s limited-overs team for the tour of Zimbabwe. Bangar had donned the role of assistant coach during Ravi Shastri’s reign as the director of the team till the 2016 ICC World T20 in April.
The Board of Cricket for Control in India (BCCI) is on the lookout for the new coach for the Indian team and had invited applications for the post with June 10 as the deadline. With India’s tour to Zimbabwe starting on June 11, the board has appointed interim coaching staff for the limited-over series.
“Mr. Sanjay Bangar has been appointed as the Head Coach of the Indian cricket team for the forthcoming tour to Zimbabwe, which commences on the 8th of June comprising 3 One-Day International matches and 3 T20 International matches to be played in Harare,” the BCCI said in a media release.
Sanjay Bangar was also the coach of Indian Premier League side Kings XI Punjab in 2015 and 2016. The Punjab side finished last in the ongoing edition of the cash-rich league.

“Mr. Abhay Sharma has been appointed as the fielding coach of the team,” the media release added.
Abhay Sharma, the former Delhi and Railways wicket-keeper batsman, had worked with the India U-19 and A teams.
India are scheduled to play three T20Is and three ODIs against Zimbabwe with the tour starting on June 11. India are sending a second-string squad to Zimbabwe with skipper MS Dhoni the only regular in the 16-member squad.
