Saha, Rohit surge ahead in latest ICC Test rankings

Rohit Sharma, Wriddhiman Saha and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were the key gainers in the ICC Test rankings announced today after their inspiring performances in India's 178-run win in the Kolkata Test. Saha made the biggest stride jumping 18 spots to reach the 56th spot in the batsmen rankings.

Saha, who scored two unbeaten half-centuries in both innings, was joined by teammate Rohit Sharma, whose 82 in the second innings rescued India from the slump they found themselves in. Rohit too rose 14 spots in the rankings to find himself at the 38th spot. India’s top scorer in the series so far, Cheteshwar Pujara, too saw his rank increase by a spot reaching No.15.

Murali Vijay, however, slipped five spots to 21 after a disastrous second Test that saw him score just 16 runs combined in both innings

Staying with the same series, New Zealand's Ross Taylor and BJ Watling struggled in difficult subcontinent conditions and saw their rankings reflect the same, while captain Kane Williamson's absence due to a viral fever cost him as well. On the other hand, Luke Ronchi and Tom Latham rose up by 12 and three places respectively to land at No.40 and 33.

Australian Steve Smith continues to dominate the batsmen's list but is being hunted down by England's Joe Root, who replaced Williamson at the silver medal position.

In the bowling department, Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s maiden five-wicket haul did not go unnoticed as he gained nine places to reach No.26 on the table, while his bowling partner Mohammed Shami now occupies the No. 23 spot after rising two places.

Ravindra Jadeja, who has regained his mojo in the New Zealand series, reached No.6 in the rankings, while his partner-in-crime, Ravichandran Ashwin, dropped a place to land at No.3.

New Zealand’s Matt Henry too was one of the big winners in the rankings chart after reaching No. 61 gaining an excellent 16 spots, while Trent Boult and teammate Neil Wagner swapped ranks to be placed at the No.9 and No.10 spots respectively.

Proteas pacer Dale Steyn leads the bowler's list followed England's James Anderson who moved into the place vacated by Ravichandran Ashwin.

Ashwin continues to lead the all-rounders, but Jadeja slipped one place to No.4.
