Laurie Evans took innovative hitting to a whole new level yesterday with one of the best-improvised shots in recent memory as he scooped the ball despite getting into an awkward position during NatWest T20 Blast game. Evans scored 42 off just 30 balls, leading his side to victory against Essex.

In the last match of South Division league round between Essex Eagles and Sussex Sharks, Evans took guard when Sussex found themselves in a problematic position of having 93 runs on the board, for the loss of three wickets, in the 12th over. The Englishman along with Chris Nash rebuild the innings and by the last over of the innings, Sussex had reached a respectable score of 164/4.

Evans then decided to show off his skills with the bat. On the first ball of the final over, not only did Evans attempt an outrageous reverse Dilscoop, he actually managed to pull it off. Peter Walter tried to bowl a cutter but Evans was ready for it and was able to place the ball between short third man and wicket-keeper for a boundary. The batsman ended up with 42 off just 30 balls.

After posting an above par total of 172, Sussex Sharks bundled out the Essex Eagles for a measly score of 117 within 16 overs. Will Beer picked up three wickets while David Wiese and Briggs shared a couple of wickets each. Apart from Evans, Luke Wright, and Chris Nash took the responsibility of starting the innings well. Nash scored a 55 ball 73 while Wright ably supported his partner with a 23-ball 37.
