Rishabh Pant on his India selection: It’s a proud feeling
Delhi wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant has shared his excitement after being selected for the T20 series against England. The Under-19 World Cup star has also said that nothing much has changed for him since the World Cup, apart from working harder on his abilities.
Pant, who is now playing the DY Patil Twenty20 Cup in Navi Mumbai, in an exclusive chat with Wisden India, said, “It’s a proud feeling. Chahal Bhai broke the news to me. He told me my name is in the squad, so I asked him to show it to me before I believed it.”
The only rookie to be included in the side, Pant, has been inundated with interview requests since the news of his selection broke out yesterday by the BCCI.
“My family members got to know before me. I was in the match, they were not in the match,” he said. “I spoke once, but haven’t got much time to talk to them since then. There have been so many calls coming that I had to switch off my mobile for a while.”
At the half-way mark of the Ranji Trophy, Pant had managed to garner an unbelievable total of 799 runs at an average of 114.4 from four matches. Although he couldn’t translate his performance in the next four matches, his blitzkriegs were sufficient to take notice of him.
Although some pundits have criticized Pant’s attacking approach from the word go, he feels he will try to capitalize on the chances.
