No serious concerns with Kohli's shoulder strain, confirms BCCI
The BCCI has confirmed that Kohli was recovering from the shoulder injury that he had sustained during the first day of the ongoing third Test in Ranchi and also added that the condition of his shoulder is not that serious. Yesterday, Kohli made a dive to stop the ball but ended up with the injury.
Contrary to reports that suggested Kohli might be ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing Test and maybe even the series, the board has said that Kohli will continue to receive treatment on his shoulder, in a bid to assist his participation in the Ranchi Test.
In the 40th over of the match, Kohli was chasing the ball to save a boundary and while he was able to stop the ball before it crossed the fence, he tumbled over the ropes. The Indian captain fell awkwardly on his shoulder and had to leave the field of play to receive some treatment. Kohli was seen grimacing in pain and team physio Patrick Farhart immediately took him to the dressing room.
Indian fielding coach R. Sridhar calmed immediate fears saying that Kohli leaving the field was a precautionary measure, "Virat's injury, the exact status of that will be known first thing tomorrow morning. He is going to undergo some scans later today and we will know the exact status of it tomorrow morning. What happened today was that we took a precaution to make sure that he does not aggravate that injury."
Speaking on the technique of Kohli’s dive Sridhar said, "As far as the technique of the dive is concerned, I think it was quite an intense chase to the boundary line and in his intent to save that one run, he stopped the ball and landed on his right shoulder when he rolled over. The impact was quite heavy because of the momentum he was carrying and so there was a shock on his right shoulder. That is the current status."
